Sri Lanka’s only AAA rated and arguably the country’s strongest bank, National Savings Bank (NSB) has embarked on a major automation project cutting across its vast organization. The contract was awarded to software giant, Affno.

NSB has over 15 million accounts and one of the largest branch networks spread throughout the country. NSB also has a large network of ATMs and is aggressively developing its international business mainly to facilitate inward remittances from the Sri Lankan Diaspora.

Affno’s award winning flagship software products, Affno Enterprise Content Management and Affno Workflow Management will be deployed at NSB. These Affno products enjoy a very high acceptance level especially in the highly prestigious e-Government sector in Asia and Africa. Many mission critical processes and mobile internet applications in large Government organizations and financial institutions in these regions run on Affno products.
All core work processes will be mapped out. Thereafter the key ones will be automated. All paper based documents in head-office plus in all branches will be scanned and converted to an electronic form.

Once completed, the new system is tipped to improve NSB’s efficiency across its colossal network. The Bank’s legendary customer service quality will be taken to a completely new height of excellence. In keeping with global trends, NSB would be able to reduce its paper consumption drastically and thereby improve its Carbon Footprint. The latter would be a very proactive, voluntary initiative on the part of the Bank before such practices are made mandatory. For all the added efficiency and enhanced brand image that the Bank would derive, it will not have to spend more. In fact, the Bank’s operating cost would also be significantly reduced and the cost of opening and operating new branches also greatly reduced.
